Welcome to Hearth & Wander

Hey, friend - I’m so glad you’ve wandered here!

I’m Alexa, the mama behind Hearth & Wander, a place where home and wild meet - where muddy boots, library books, and slow mornings weave together into the beautiful, sometimes-chaotic practice of raising little ones with roots and wings.

I write for the mamas who crave intention - the ones who want to raise wonder-filled kids, create homes that feel like havens, and keep adventure alive even in the ordinary. Whether you’re knee-deep in laundry or knee-deep in a creek with your littles, this space is for you.

Here, you’ll find stories and ideas that celebrate both the hearth and the horizon. My blog is built around five main pillars of our days:

  • Play & Learning - outdoor fun, homeschooling, sneaking learning into play, life rooted in nature

  • Family Adventures - spending time together, joyful activities, all-season fun, involving all ages

  • Books & Story Time - book baskets, building a love for reading, fun learning themes, rhythms

  • Seasonal Celebrations - creating traditions, savoring seasons, meaningful and magical holidays

  • Motherhood Musings - intentional moments, slow living, gentle encouragement, walking by faith

The Faces Behind the Stories

Before this season of motherhood, I spent years chasing big dreams and long to-do lists - until I realized that the richest life was right in front of me, in the slow, extraordinary ordinary. Now, I fill my days with simple joys: baking bread, hiking mountain trails, reading stacks of picture books (and writing one too), and creating rhythms that help our family live both rooted and free. This is the balancing act of motherhood - homemaking and adventure - the heart of Hearth & Wander.

My little family calls the high country of Colorado our home and playground and this picturesque place can largely be given the credit for our love of and accessibility to nature. Both my husband and I grew up here and have a hunger for outdoor adventure - skiing, snowmobiling, camping, hiking, hunting, boating, and simply basking in our sunshine-filled days. Now we have a baby and tot to bring along and they fuel our desire to live life outdoors and inspire all of the activities and ideas in this blog.

Hearth & Wander is truly a reflection of our own family life - learning to say no to perfection and yes to presence, trying our best to be intentional with our time and these fleeting years with our littles, and realizing that we don't have to force magical moments; they're in everyday life when you have wonder-filled and wild-hearted littles in your home. You're reading the pages of lived experience - blending homemaking, motherhood, and the outdoors in a way that feels doable and inspiring. Every blog, photo, and idea is real and true to who we are - no stock images, here! You're seeing a reflection of our favorite things - books, fun adventures, cozy moments, family dinners, beautiful hikes, simple pleasures, and special memories. Think of Hearth & Wander as a cozy corner of the internet - equal parts motherhood journal and field guide for raising curious, grounded kids alongside of us.

Why I Write About Roots and Wings

When I became a mama, I realized how deeply I wanted my children to feel anchored in home but curious about the world. To know the comfort of cinnamon rolls baking on a cold morning and the thrill of discovering deer tracks in the first snow fall. That’s what roots and wings mean to me - roots that ground our family in faith, love, and tradition; wings that encourage exploration, resilience, and wonder. This blog is my way of living that out - one book basket, hike, pumpkin patch, or slow morning at a time.

So I hope you'll pour yourself a cup of something warm, kick off your muddy boots, and stay awhile. Whether you’re here for inspiration, ideas, or simply to remember that you’re not alone on this wild and beautiful road of motherhood - welcome home.
